Message from COO

Since its establishment in 2000, we have continued the challenge of improving the productivity of our business customers by increasing the efficiency of their indirect materials procurement processes through the power of technology and data under our mission "To Innovate Business Procurement Network." Thanks to the support of our customers, suppliers, and employees, we have grown into a procurement platform for various businesses. As our business expands, we continue to work on realizing a sustainable society with identity and a stronger sense of responsibility while considering social issues such as climate change and human rights.
MonotaRO has long provided supplies during disasters and volunteer activities in local communities. In 2021, we launched the Sustainability Project. One of the initiatives is promoting logistics operations with lower environmental impact, such as reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and waste. Another initiative is establishing procurement networks that consider environmental and human rights guidelines.Regarding our climate change efforts, we aim to reduce the absolute CO2 emissions by 50% (compared to 2020) by 2030. We are working to achieve this goal by introducing measures such as applying insulated paint on the roofs of our logistic centers to reduce internal warehouse temperatures, optimizing the compressor pressure of our warehouse facilities, and switching the electric power of our three largest logistic centers to renewable energy.Additionally, regarding Diversity and inclusion, we are working to eliminate discrimination following our Business Conduct Guidelines, utilizing diverse talents, including women, and establishing support systems and training programs. By steadily implementing these measures, we aim to create a more robust corporate culture to achieve sustainable growth.

We hope that MonotaRO contributes to a better future, even a little, and that our business will be recognized as valuable by customers around the world in the next ten to twenty years. We are observing the world's changes, listening to the voices in the world, and taking action to realize a sustainable society.

Sakuya Tamura, President & COO

Our Focus (Materiality Assessment)

In addition to improving the productivity of our business customers by reforming the materials procurement network, we have had discussions within MonotaRO on the following issues from the standpoint of importance to MonotaRO and the expectations of society;

 1. Cooperation with suppliers aiming at the development of an industrial society which considers
  the environment and human rights
 2. Reduction of CO2 emissions as a measure against climate change
 3. Diversity and inclusion
 4. Realization of a resource-recycling model through recycling activities and waste reductions
 5. Proposal and development of environment-conscious products

We will set the initiatives for the issues on track and communicate further initiatives to society in the future.

Materiality Identification Process

1. Recognizing social issues

Project members and management examined the connections between "17 targets of SDGs and 169 targets" and "business," listed actions for the potential contributions to the realization of the SDGs goals and targets considering our business processes and value chain, and as a result, classified and organized 114 proposals.

2. Priority setting

Decided to organize issues based on the two axes of "expectation from society" and "importance to the company, and mapped and selected key issues based on the discussions among project members, management teams and outside consultants

3. Identification

Identified and determined the materiality ("Our Focus") through the approval of the board of directors.

Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee, which consists of the President and CEO and other members, is positioned as the core organization in MonotaRO, and the Committee regularly reports to and discusses with the Board of Directors. The Working Groups on the important issues develop actual initiatives led by the Head of the Working Group appointed among the General Managers of the relevant Departments in charge and the practical leader appointed in each Groups.
